David Friesen Trio


Bass virtuoso David Friesen has recorded over 70 CD's as a leader or co-leader and appeared as a sideman or featured artist on more than 100 recordings. He has performed or recorded with many of the legends of jazz including: Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson, Sam Rivers, Michael Brecker, Bud Shank, Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Freddie Hubbard, Art Farmer, Clark Terry, Joe Venuti, Mal Waldron, Jaki Byard, Kenny Drew, Chick Corea, Milt Jackson, Slim Gaillard, John Scofield, Philly Joe Jones, Elvin Jones, Paul Motian, Jack Dejohnette, Larry Coryell, Mose Allison, Ted Curson, Randy Brecker, Paul Horn, Billy Harper and Airto Moreira.

John Gross: Tenor saxophone.

John Gross was born in Los Angeles in 1944, where he lived and worked until 1991. He adopted the saxophone at an early age, and by the age of seventeen he was playing with some of the great jazz players in the business, including Harry James, Stan Kenton, Lionel Hampton, Shelly Manne, Don Ellis, Bill Holman, Gerald Wilson, Woody Herman, and Toshiko Akiyoshi.

Gross now lives in Portland, Oregon and teaches in the jazz programs at Portland State University and Oregon State University. He continues to perform with top musicians such as Putter Smith, Larry Koonse, Gary Versace, Billy Mintz, Alan Jones and Gordon Lee.


Greg Goebel: Pianist

Greg graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University Of Oregon School Of Music where he studied composition and improvisation with Gary Versace, Randy Porter and Steve Owen. Upon graduation he received the University’s award for Outstanding Undergraduate Performer in Music. The University said of his achievements, “[he] has personally done more to elevate the performance level of our jazz students than any other person, graduate or undergraduate, who has attended the U of O in at least the last fifteen years”.

Greg has been recognized in Down Beat magazine with an award for Outstanding Original Composition. He has consistently been given top honors at music festivals including, most recently, Best Overall College Performer and three times Best Overall College Pianist at the Reno International Jazz Festival.

Greg continues to perform with musicians such as Alan Jones, Bob Magnusson, Dick Oatts, John Handy, Gary Hobbs, Peter Epstein, John Stowell, and Rebecca Kilgore.
