Pianist David Berkman
is an award-winning composer/bandleader/educator, a recording artist
whose
nine records as a leader have appeared on numerous “best records
of the year” critic’s lists including the New York Times, Village
Voice, Downbeat, JazzIz, and Jazz Times. He also appears on five
recordings with the New York Standards Quartet.
He has performed with major jazz figures including Cecil McBee, Tom
Harrell, The Vanguard Orchestra, Sonny Stitt, Brian Blade, Joe Lovano,
Dave Douglas, Ray Drummond, Billy Hart, Tony Malaby, Robin Eubanks,
Steve Wilson, Chris Potter, Lenny White, Scott Colley, Bill Stewart,
Dave Stryker, Fathead Newman, Hank Crawford, and Jane Monheit.
Berkman has performed in the United States, South America, Europe and
Japan, including the Edinburgh festival, the Cork Festival and the
London Jazz Festival. Recent tours include the Netherlands, Austria,
Germany, Belgium, Holland, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Japan, Korea,
and New Zealand.

Wiitala
has played with Jessica Williams, James Moody, Benny Golson, Pete
Jolly, Joe Henderson, Akira Tana, Vince Lateano, Scott Hamilton, Bruce
Forman, Rebecca Parris, Wesla Whitfield, Madeline Eastman, and Jackie
Ryan, among many others.
John was heard previously at Chez Hanny with Faith Winthrop, Michele
Rosewoman, Patrick Wolff, Mark Levine, Peck Allmond, Scott
Barnhill, and Harvey Wainapel.
Drummer Akira Tana has worked with Sonny Rollins,
Sonny Stitt, Zoot Sims, Hubert
Laws, Milt Jackson, Jim Hall, Art Farmer, Tete Montoliu, Paul Winter,
Paquito D'Rivera, James Moody, J.J. Johnson, Lena Horne, the Heath
Brothers, and Manhattan Transfer. He has appeared on over 150
recordings.
Tana co-led a quintet with bassist Rufus Reid, called TanaReid, which
released five CDs. A further five CDs followed with his own bands,
Otonowa, and The Secret Agent Men Band.
Akira appeared here previously with Larry Vuckovich, Jerome Sabbagh,
Jon Mayer, and Knucklebean.
